The basics
- What is Fit Patch Wellness?
Fit Patch Wellness is an adaptive fitness and wellness company providing personalized fitness coaching, wellness support, and nutrition coaching for individuals ages 6 through adulthood. We specialize in serving people with disabilities, veterans, seniors, and anyone needing individualized support.
- Who do you serve?
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Down syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, cerebral palsy, veterans, seniors, individuals with mobility challenges, beginners, and anyone seeking personalized fitness support.
- What ages do you work with?
We serve clients from age 6 through adulthood, including seniors.
- What services do you offer?
One-on-one adaptive fitness, small group fitness, wellness coaching, nutrition coaching, functional fitness, strength and conditioning, balance and coordination, flexibility training, and home fitness programs.
- What makes Fit Patch Wellness different?
We provide inclusive adaptive fitness with individualized coaching. Fit Patch Wellness was founded by a U.S. Coast Guard veteran and Special Education teacher, inspired by lifelong advocacy for a family member with Down syndrome.
- What is the goal of Fit Patch Wellness?
To empower individuals of all abilities to live healthier, stronger, and more independent lives through adaptive fitness, wellness education, and compassionate coaching.
Getting started and the evaluation
- Does everyone qualify?
Every client completes an evaluation to ensure we can safely provide services.
- Why do you require an evaluation?
To assess safety, mobility, strength, balance, communication, ability to follow directions, and goals, so we can personalize each program.
- Do I need a doctor's referral?
Not usually. Depending on your health history, physician clearance may be requested.
- What if someone cannot follow directions?
Participants must be able to understand and follow basic coaching instructions, or have an appropriate caregiver present.
- Does my child need to be athletic before starting?
No. Beginners are welcome.
Who can take part
- Can my child with autism participate?
Yes, provided they can safely participate and follow basic instructions. An evaluation is required.
- Can someone with Down syndrome participate?
Absolutely. Programs are individualized for safety and success.
- My loved one uses a wheelchair. Can they still participate?
In many cases, yes. We will determine the safest approach during the evaluation.
- My loved one has cerebral palsy. Can they participate?
Many individuals can benefit. We evaluate each person individually.
- What if my loved one has behavioral challenges?
We will discuss concerns during the evaluation to determine whether our services are an appropriate fit.
- What if my loved one has seizures or another medical condition?
Medical clearance may be requested when appropriate.
- Can siblings or family members work out too?
Yes. Ask about family training options.
Sessions, locations and scheduling
- Where do sessions take place?
In-home, community gyms, partner facilities, schools, community centers, outdoor locations, and our future Fit Patch Wellness Center.
- Do you travel?
Yes. We provide mobile services throughout the Greater Houston area and surrounding communities.
- How long are sessions?
Typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes.
- What should I wear?
Comfortable workout clothing, athletic shoes, and bring water.
- Can parents or caregivers attend sessions?
Yes. We encourage caregivers to participate whenever beneficial.
- Do you provide transportation?
No. Clients arrange their own transportation unless otherwise specified.
- What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice. See your client agreement for details.
Safety, credentials and scope
- Are you doctors or physical therapists?
No. We are Adaptive Fitness Coaches, Certified Personal Trainers, and CPR/First Aid certified professionals. We are not a medical practice.
- Are you nutritionists?
No. We provide nutrition coaching and healthy lifestyle education but do not diagnose or prescribe medical nutrition therapy.
- What certifications do your coaches have?
Adaptive fitness training, CPR/First Aid certifications, and other professional credentials appropriate to their roles.
- Is adaptive fitness safe?
Yes. Every workout is individualized with safety as our highest priority.
- Can Fit Patch Wellness replace therapy?
No. We complement, not replace, medical or therapy services.
- Do you guarantee results?
No. Results depend on consistency, participation, health status, and individual effort.
- How do you measure progress?
Through assessments, goal tracking, and improvements in strength, balance, endurance, mobility, confidence, and independence.
Cost and membership
- Do you accept insurance?
Most services are private pay. We are exploring future funding opportunities.
- Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Possibly, depending on your plan. Check with your provider.
- Do you offer memberships?
Yes. Monthly membership options are available.
